Some moments really sum up city living. They say chivalry is long gone, but this story proves some guys want to erase any memory that it ever existed. One person is hauling three bags big enough to move cross-country, plus wrangling a small dog, all while trying to wedge through a heavy glass door using only pure willpower and whatever spare shoulder strength is left. Ten feet away, a man is casually strolling toward the door, hands free and leash in hand, and decides this is his moment for chivalry in reverse.

He watches the struggle, then hits peak entitlement by shouting, "Thanks for holding the door," with enough sarcasm to fill the elevator lobby. Apparently, being a grown man with zero objects in his arms means the world should constantly revolve around his convenience. Confronted, he doubles down and still expects a tiny woman, buried under laundry mountains, to cater to his royal entrance.

  • Nothing about this scene makes sense, except maybe the reminder that some people would rather perform outrage than lift a finger. If the roles were reversed, of course help would be given, but this is classic performative helplessness in action. When the bar for decency is set below carrying your own weight, that is officially a princess moment. City survival means learning not to carry heavy expectations along with everything else.

  • MelodicPaws Yep, I was walking my dog the other month and I saw an older lady with 2 bags, she kept stopping and putting them down for a short rest. So I walked her home carrying the bags and my dogs lead. It's just common courtesy, and showed me I'm not the absolute asshole I often think I am, at least not all the time!

  • Brua_G I was on the commuter train and a young couple approached a single empty seat. They were maybe 18-20. Good looking, stylishly dressed. The guy just plops down in the seat, playing on his phone. The woman just stood there, holding the bar. She had a look of mild exasperation.
